Admissions
Admission arrangements
Foundation schools such as Rye Hills are entitled to operate as their own admission authorities. However, our Governors have decided that we will continue with current Local Authority arrangements until further notice.
The 'admissions limit' for Rye Hills (fixed by the LA in consultation with the Governors) is 237 students per year group, giving a total of 1185 for the school. As a specialist school we would in theory be entitled to select a proportion of our intake based on aptitude in our specialism (Sport), but Governors are firmly of the view that as a comprehensive school we should welcome all students otherwise entitled to come here, irrespective of any particular aptitude, ability or disability.
Parents/carers of children about to move from primary to secondary schools (i.e. those currently in Y6) should receive an information booklet from the LA setting out in detail the procedures for admissions at 11+ and enclosing a form on which application should be made. The booklet sets out in detail the criteria by which places at secondary schools are allocated.
Further information and advice can be obtained from the Local Authority's Admissions section on 01642 - 444110.
